Last year, the names of our five Foundations were updated to align with the Ascension brand as a reflection of our Mission and the critical work being done at Ascension Providence and Ascension Seton, including Dell Children’s and Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas at Austin.

The five Foundations support 14 Ascension Texas hospitals throughout Central Texas and make up what is known as the Ascension Texas Foundations:

Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin

Empowering mothers through nutrition

The Food is the Best Medicine (FBM) program was established by the Ascension Texas Council on Racial and Health Equity, with the overarching goal of decreasing food insecurity among women who have recently given birth at ASMCA.

More than 5,000 babies are born each year at ASMCA, a Level 4 maternal hospital, caring for the most complex, high-risk maternal cases. Fifty percent (%) of patients who deliver babies at ASMCA are un- and/or under-insured. In Austin and Travis County, nearly 178,000 people (14%) experience food insecurity.

Because of philanthropic dollars from generous individuals, perinatal endowments, and aligned corporate/family foundations to fund FBM, Ascension Seton can continue to advocate for healthier communities, with a focus on providing equitable healthcare to those who need it most. As ASMCA’s capacity to care for more women grows, thanks to the new Women’s Tower and the Women First campaign, the need for FBM will grow as well.

Ascension Providence

Growing support for a growing community

As the Waco community continues to grow, so does the need for orthopedic care, advanced spinal care, as well as stroke care and rehabilitative therapy.

Because of donor generosity, a nearly $1.2 million construction project fully funded by the Ascension Providence Foundation has begun to create a dedicated wing for orthopedics and neuroscience with spacious and well-equipped rooms, and a state-of-the-art rehabilitative therapy gym close to patient rooms. This dedicated space has been designed to further improve patient and staff safety as well as patient outcomes by promoting early mobility, reducing patients’ length of stay, and helping lower readmission rates.

Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas at Austin

Expanding the possibilities of specialty care

In 2023, as a part of a $280 million expansion, Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas at Austin opened the first dedicated neurocritical care unit in Central Texas.

This 15-bed unit is led by board-certified neurocritical care doctors, caring for patients experiencing the most complex and serious neurologic conditions.

This expansion would not be possible without philanthropic support and investment from Ascension. Dell Seton can provide even more specialty care and expand access to high-quality, individualized care for all in Central Texas.

Dell Children’s Medical Center

Giving hope to families, here

Dell Children’s has a strategic vision to ensure that every family can remain here, in Central Texas, for care. Philanthropic support from our community is imperative as we work to achieve this goal.

No family should have to leave home to seek lifesaving care for their child, and for the 70% of our families facing financial hardship, travel for lifesaving care isn’t even an option. Every decision made, and every dollar raised, in this leap forward is to ensure children can stay here, no matter the diagnosis.

Holtin’s care at Dell Children’s included our Comprehensive Fetal Care Center, Heart Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Dell Children’s world-class wraparound family services, illustrating the importance of comprehensive complex pediatric care close to home.

Philanthropic support has accelerated the growth and capacity of our programs, ensuring that all children in need can receive care HERE. As of April 2023, Dell Children’s Medical Center North Campus serves as a state-of-the-art children’s hospital in North Austin – with pediatric specialty care – including 24/7 ER and trauma care, specialized surgical care, pediatric imaging, and outpatient rehab services so children and families can continue to access the world-class care they deserve.

Ascension Seton Williamson

Reaching new heights in exceptional patient care

Ascension Seton Williamson (ASW) recently announced a $230 million expansion, which includes an additional 216,000-square-foot, six-story tower.

The new tower will add 160 patients rooms, including a 12-bed observation unit, two operating rooms, and more space for the emergency, imaging, cardiac cath, and surgical departments. Of the more than 60,600 patients cared for by ASW in FY23, nearly 37% were un- or under-insured. Expanding services at ASW ensures that everyone in the community has access to world-class healthcare, regardless of ability to pay.

The Highland Lakes Health Fund presented a generous donation of $600,000 to Ascension Seton Highland Lakes, enabling the acquisition of a state-of-the-art Da Vinci Robotic System for general surgery. This landmark donation marks a significant leap forward in healthcare technology for patients in the Highland Lakes area and is a testament to the community’s ongoing commitment to exceptional patient care.

Ascension Seton Hays

Keeping care moving

2023 marked the 20th anniversary of the Ascension Seton Edgar B. Davis Children’s Care-A-Van. Over the past two decades, the Care-A-Van has provided 37,500 children access to medical care across Caldwell and neighboring counties.

Nearly 93% of those patients have been un- or under-insured. The van travels to local schools and churches to provide convenient pediatric primary care, including immunizations, sick visits, wellness checks, and chronic illness management. Through the support of donors, the recent purchase of a new mobile unit will allow the Care-A-Van to continue serving thousands of children – many of whom have no other option for primary care.

The new van will begin supporting the local community in 2024 and an endowment is being built by generous donors to ensure all children in Caldwell County and beyond have access to affordable healthcare in perpetuity.
