Network Wide Funds

CHARITY CARE – NETWORK

Purpose: Helps pay for healthcare for people who can’t afford the care they need.

Furthering Our Mission: Charity Care is at the heart of Ascension Seton’s mission to care for the poor and vulnerable.

Patient Story: Mark is a homeless man in Austin and, on most days, you can find him standing on his corner. Being
exposed to the elements has taken a toll on Mark’s health. He has several chronic health conditions that periodically
require attention in an Emergency Room. He has been to several in our area. He recently shared that in his experience,
the homeless are often treated as “invisible” as though they don’t exist. He is quick to point out though, that at
Ascension Seton hospitals, he feels not only taken care of in the medical sense, but also cared about and cared for as a
person. As Mark says, at Ascension Seton he feels a sense of dignity, that he is important, and that he matters.

Impact: Over the past ten years, Ascension Texas has provided over $5.4 billion in community care. The annual average

2021 We Give To Give Total: $6,847.00

MEDICAL MISSION AT HOME

Purpose: Provide free medical care to those with limited access and who are struggling in our community during the annual Medical Mission at Home. Services include: health screenings, dental services, spiritual care, prescriptions, referrals to community services, and medical care.

Furthering Our Mission: The Medical Mission at Home is our mission in action; reaching out to the community to advocate for a compassionate and just society through our actions.

Impact: The MMAH was postponed in 2020 and 2021 for COVID-19 safety, but will resume once precautions can be made. In 2019, the MMAH served 540 people at Ascension Seton Hays! Dental Services – 220; with 90 people making follow-up appointments / Vision Screening – 133 / Feet Washing – 122

2021 We Give To Give Total – $7,516.00

EMERGENCY RELIEF ENDOWMENT

Purpose: Provides emergency financial assistance to patients or Ascension Seton associates in financial need.

Furthering Our Mission: Ascension Seton is more than a health system, we are a health ministry. The ERF furthers our ability to sustain and improve the health of our patients and associates while advocating for a compassionate society.

Stories:
– A patient representative in one of our clinics lost her grandmother to COVID-19. The family could not afford the unexpected funeral expenses. Thanks to your generosity, they were able to celebrate the life of their loved ones in a dignified manner.

NURSING FUND FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES AND RECOGNITION

Purpose: Provides financial support and advocacy for nurses who are pursuing professional development, engaged in scholarly activities, and for recognition of excellent nurses.

Furthering Our Mission: A compassionate and just society requires great healthcare. Great healthcare requires excellent nurses working to advance scientific understanding.

Story: Due to COVID-19, professional development for nurses is extremely limited. The money donated will pay for 3 nurses to present at a professional conference when opportunities open again.

SETON NURSE SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Purpose: Provides scholarships to Ascension Seton associates to advance or pursue a career in nursing. Purpose: Provides scholarships to Ascension Seton associates to advance or pursue a career in nursing.

Furthering Our Mission: By providing nursing scholarships, we are supporting associates furthering their education while creating a strong nursing force to improve the health of Central Texans.

Story: 13 years ago, San Hartlinne joined the EVS team. Now, she is an all-star PCT at Ascension Seton Highland Lakes. In May 2021, she will complete her nursing degree. San delayed her education to care for her 4 children after her husband passed in 2010. She has persevered to provide better care for the patients she cares so much about because, “If you aren’t giving back, you aren’t doing it right.” In response to receiving a scholarship to complete her degree, San says, “In my journey I have fought to keep the faith. Not knowing how in the world my needs would be met was a very real concern for me. And now, because of Seton, I have been blessed and lifted so that I may continue to grow in my field. My deepest thank you for providing the scholarship. I truly feel honored.”

Impact: Since 2005, 637 scholarships totaling more than $2.4 million have been given out through the Ascension Seton Nurse Scholarship program. In August 2021, 67 scholarships totaling $395,000 were awarded.

Central Austin Hospitals

DELL CHILDREN’S FAMILY FUND

Purpose: Ensures direct and immediate funds to provide comfort items for families at Dell Children’s as well as provisions for children and families experiencing financial hardship.

Furthering Our Mission: A family with a sick child is uniquely vulnerable. The Family Fund at Dell Children’s allows us to serve the patient and family by providing comfort in their most vulnerable time.

Stories:

– A 10 yr old boy sustained burns to his upper body during a kitchen accident. Due to heavy scarring, he required a specialized compression garment in order to move forward with treatment, and have needed surgery.  The family was not able to afford this unexpected medical expense, but the Family Fund provided the necessary vests (cost of $1540.00).

– Patient’s families often arrive at the Dell Children’s unexpectedly. Sadly some do not have food or money for food. Food Pantries, supported by the Family Fund, provide microwave meals, protein bars, snack mix, breakfast items, and more on every unit for any family that needs it.

HERE CAMPAIGN AT DELL CHILDREN’S

Purpose: Keeps kids HERE, at home in Central Texas, for all their heart, brain, and cancer care. Read more.

Furthering Our Mission: No one should lack access to the best medical care, especially children. Advancing care at Ascension Seton means everyone in our community receives the best healing, no matter their situation.

Patient Story: Dr. Fraser is now leading the heart team at Dell Children’s, making sure kids like Daniel can stay in Austin for their care.

Impact: In 2021, the Dell Children’s Specialty Pavilion and the new specialized labor and delivery unit, designed for mothers who are patients of the Comprehensive Fetal Care Center, opened. Ground was broken on the new fourth bed tower, which will provide 72 additional rooms for Acute Care, and construction on Dell Children’s Medical Center North is well underway.

FUTURE OF CARE AT DELL SETON MEDICAL CENTER

Purpose: Set a new standard for world-class healthcare through Dell Seton Medical Center and Dell Medical School’s unique partnership. The Future of Care focuses on transplant and neuroscience services lines and cutting-edge care from top doctors. Read More.

PATIENT CLOTHING CLOSET AT SETON SHOAL CREEK

Purpose: Donations to the Patient Clothing Closet stock necessities like sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts, slip-on canvas shoes, undergarments, and shorts for patients in crisis who need them.

Furthering Our Mission: Mental illness and poverty go hand-in-hand. Helping clothe patients not only supports their care but offers compassion and justice for those often neglected in society.

Patient Story: A young male patient came into Ascension Seton Shoal Creek and had nothing to wear but our blue paper scrubs. The patient was very self-conscious and shy, wanting to isolate himself to his room. Justin Wilder, an admission’s nurse, was able to get him some sweats from the Patient Clothing Closet the next day. The patient brightened up immediately and started coming out of his room to attend groups and interact with peers.

Impact: 718 patients served with over 1,600 garments in 2021.

ONE HEARTBEAT CAMPAIGN AT ASCENSION SETON MEDICAL CENTER AUSTIN

Purpose: Accelerate investment in technologies, facilities, and medical talent at ASMCA to meet Austin’s growing demand for exceptional care. Read More.

Furthering Our Mission: As good stewards of the mission entrusted to us, Ascension Seton is dedicated to taking big steps to improve the care we provide to everyone who walks in our doors, regardless of ability to pay.

Patient Story: Kristen, a mother of 4, almost died from a failing heart. Her life was saved from great cardiac care at ASMCA, including a heart transplant. Read more.

Impact: The Cardiovascular Fellowship program at ASMCA has grown steadily since its launch in 2019 and will soon have 9 Fellows

SETON CIRCLES

Purpose: Fund grant requests for equipment or program needs from various departments at sites with a Seton Circle. Seton Circle members vote on grants annually. Each participating hospital has its own Seton Circle Fund; money does not transfer between sites.

Furthering Our Mission: Little things add up to make a big difference. These grants help fund important programs and equipment that, when added together, further Ascension Seton’s ability to provide spiritually centered holistic care.

Impact:

  • Ascension Seton Williamson: OR charting tablets, Very Important Hearts Chair Yoga, Postpartum Mommy Massage and Spa Package,  5th floor  RN Resident mentor, Pediatric ED coloring books
  • Ascension Seton Highland Lakes: Vein Illuminator, Patient Transport Chair, Healing Garden, Family Presence Sleep Chair
  • Ascension Seton Northwest: will fund grants in October 2020
  • Ascension Seton Southwest: Rifton Adaptive Chairs for Pediatric Rehab (2020)

North Market Hospitals

CARING FOR THE CAREGIVER AT ASCENSION SETON WILLIAMSON

Purpose: Philanthropic support led to the creation of Caring for the Caregiver – a program focused on supporting the overall well-being of clinicians, including: on-site counseling services, tranquility lounges, team building, hospital celebrations, and associate appreciation events.

The Caring for the Caregiver Fund is new for 2022/23

CARDIOLOGY EXCELLENCE AT ASCENSION SETON WILLIAMSON

Purpose: Leading the way in high-quality, patient-centered cardiac care for the people of Williamson County. Read more.

Furthering Our Mission: As good stewards of the mission entrusted to us, Ascension Seton is dedicated to taking big steps to improve the care we provide to everyone who walks in our doors, regardless of ability to pay.

Impact: Ascension Seton Williamson fully updated its catheterization lab and upgraded all of its electrophysiology equipment.

CHILDREN’S HEALTHCARE ENDOWMENT SUPPORTING THE CARE-A-VAN AT ASCENSION SETON HIGHLAND LAKES

Purpose: Ensures children in the Burnett County area receive the highest level of medical care now, and for generations to come. This endowment is the primary source of funding for the Ascension Seton Highland Lakes Care-a-Van.

Furthering Our Mission: Underserved and uninsured children in need of rural healthcare are one of the most vulnerable populations in Central Texas and Ascension Seton is proud to provide them accessible care.

Impact Since 2003: 29,751 patient visits, 21,467 immunizations, 15,501 medications: view the full impact report

South Market Hospitals

Purpose: Providing transformative, patient-centered heart care to the growing and aging populations of Hays and Caldwell Counties. Read more.

Furthering Our Mission: As good stewards of the mission entrusted to us, Ascension Seton is dedicated to taking big steps to improve the care we provide to everyone who walks in our doors, regardless of ability to pay.

Patient Story: Tom Shelton has had 5 heart attacks. Luckily number 4 and 5 were in the care of Ascension Seton Hays that not only saved his life, but inspired him to transform it. Watch Tom’s story.

Impact: In the past year, Ascension Seton Hays added a third catheterization lab and became one of the first labs in the country to utilize a special bed to decrease scatter radiation by 80-90%, increasing patient and associate safety.

CHILDREN’S HEALTHCARE ENDOWMENT SUPPORTING THE CARE-A-VAN AT ASCENSION SETON EDGAR B. DAVIS

Purpose: Ensures children in the Caldwell County area receive the highest level of medical care now, and for generations to come. This endowment is the primary source of funding for the Ascension Seton Edgar B. Davis Care-a-Van.

Furthering Our Mission: Underserved and uninsured children in need of rural healthcare are one of the most vulnerable populations in Central Texas and Ascension Seton is proud to provide them accessible care.

Patient Story: As the guardian of my five grandchildren, the Care-a-Van has been a blessing to us and our community. The team is friendly and helpful with providing quality healthcare as well as additional resources. I don’t have a vehicle to transport all the children at once to receive healthcare out of town, so the convenience of the Van being local makes a huge difference.

Impact: Last year: 1,695 clinic visits, 1,445 immunizations, 91.8% under or uninsured, 205 new patients. The Care-A-Van is the ONLY healthcare provider in Caldwell County that accepts Medicaid and CHIP and provides services to those with no insurance coverage.
